A Cincinnati man won a first-place national award last weekend after the 2019 National Auto Sport Association championships, according to a press release.

Brian Faessler won the Super Unlimited class title after a qualifying session, a qualifying race and then the championship race on September 22.

“I had the jump at the start and just managed to take the lead in Turn 1, just kind of held up,” said Faessler. “Luckily I was able to stay clear of all this debris on the track and get out of the craziness. So luckily I was able to just hold on.

Faessler posted a video of his run on YouTube where fans can follow.

The event was held nearby at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, the release said. Over 325 amateur and semi-pro drivers from across the country came to compete in more than 25 categories.

The Mid-Ohio sports car route is comparable to the 2,258-mile road course IndyCar drivers drove in July, the statement said. This is the sixth time that the National Auto Sport Association has used this course.

The National Auto Sport Association is one of the nation’s largest amateur motorsport sanctioning bodies, the statement said. Many drivers of the association join the professional ranks.
