How to disable automatic downloading of images, videos on WhatsApp

Are you tired of images sent by WhatsApp that use up your phone’s memory? Here’s what you need to do.
Indians love WhatsApp. From instant messaging to video calls, WhatsApp is the go-to platform for one-to-one or group messaging. Although WhatsApp is simple and easy to use, sometimes it becomes very frustrating, for example, a multitude of images and videos that take up all your smartphone storage.
Sometimes you might really want an image, video or any file to be swapped, but on some occasions random WhatsApp transfers really frustrate us. Apart from choking up your mobile storage, these random media files transferred by WhatsApp drain your mobile data and even your battery. And if you are part of several WhatsApp groups where multimedia is exchanged a lot, you will be completely affected by this problem.
Well, if you have been facing this problem for some time or you have a low storage Android smartphone, here is what you should do.
Launch WhatsApp, then tap the three dots in the upper right corner. Go to Settings > Data & storage usage.
Now you will see a bunch of options that will help you better control the data WhatsApp uses. For example, under “network usage” you will find an overview of the number of messages sent and received, message bytes sent and received, etc.
To disable automatic downloading of images, tap “when using mobile data” under “automatic downloading of media”. Check the type of content you want to automatically download. If you have already selected “photos”, simply uncheck it. You can do the same for videos and audio files.
If you don’t want to download images automatically, even over Wi-Fi, tap on the “when connected over Wi-Fi” option and repeat the same process as above.
Bonus Tip: If you are an iPhone user and facing the same problem, launch WhatsApp > Chats > Data & Storage Usage > Save to Camera Roll > enable/disable the content formats you want to stop/allow automatic downloading.
