Google will soon discontinue the Android Auto app, but there is a workaround

Google has announced that it will soon remove the Android Auto mobile app. However, the company will replace it with Google Assistant.

The company has confirmed that Android 12 and the standalone Android Auto for Phone Screens app will not be available to users.

The search giant also assured that users who rely on the app while driving need not worry as the driving-friendly interface will be available on the Android phone via Google Driving Mode. Assistant, available in Google Maps, or the native Android Auto interface available in compatible cars. Google said the experience won’t change for anyone using Android Auto in compatible cars.

In a statement, Google said: “For those using the phone experience (Android Auto mobile app), they will switch to the Google Assistant driving mode. Starting with Android 12, the Google Assistant driving mode will be driving. integrated mobile experience. We have no further details to share at this time.”

Google made an official announcement about the shutdown after a few users complained that they were redirected to Google Assistant’s driving mode when they tried to access the Android Auto for Phone Screens app. The Android Auto app is also not compatible with some Pixel devices running Android 12.
