Android Auto app adds toggle to turn off notification sounds while driving

Android Auto allows you to integrate your smartphone into your car, driver safety being paramount. While it’s great for letting you control your music, get navigation tips, get weather reports and more while driving, it’s not uncommon for it to distract a driver. So far, for example, every time you received a notification you would hear it through your car speakers. This is obviously very annoying if you are trying to concentrate on driving, especially if you are getting a lot of notifications. In version 5.0.500224 of the Android Auto app, however, there is finally an option to turn off notification sound.
Although this feature took a while to be added to Google, it is not quite free from all distractions for the time being. Even when the sound is turned off, notifications will still show on your car screen until they are removed. According to some users, notifications are blocked on the screen even when the notification sound is on. Still, the functionality is exactly what many have been asking for for a long time. Your music will no longer be interrupted by a pop-up notification, and you also shouldn’t be distracted by a constant burst of notifications while driving if you don’t want to.
If you don’t have the feature yet, be sure to update to the latest version of the Android Auto app to try it out. Hopefully Google can fix the blocked notifications bug soon!
